Lai Ching Lia Wins Taiwan's Election as President

The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Lai Ching has won Taiwan's presidential election. DPP is taking a strong stand for Taiwan's independence. The results were announced after eight hours of voting in the country on Saturday. DPP vice president Lai Ching-te won the election in Taiwan amid increasing pressure from China on the question of sovereignty. He is also known as William Lye there.

Local media reported that there are more than 19.5 million voters in Taiwan. Among them, Lai got more than 50 lakh votes. Voters voted eight hours after polling began this morning. Then the result announcement started. Lai was ahead from the start.

Considering the influence of the US and China, this year's presidential election in Taiwan is considered very important. China sees this election as a choice between war and peace. In 1996, Taiwan's president was elected by direct vote for the first time. Since then, Taiwan has continued its democratic march.

Responding to his election victory, Lai said he was determined to protect Taiwan from China's constant threats and intimidation. He will maintain the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, also said, 'I want to thank the people of Taiwan for writing a new chapter in our democracy. We have shown the world how much we cherish democracy, this is our firm commitment.

Beijing has repeatedly described Li as a "dangerous separatist" before the vote. Along with that, the Chinese administration has repeatedly rejected his proposal for talks. Still, Lai pledged to maintain peace and strengthen defenses in the Taiwan Strait.

Lai's other two rivals in this election were Ho Yu Yeh of Taiwan's largest opposition Kuomintang (KMT) party and Ko Wen-je, leader of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), founded in 2019. Ko Wen-Jie, the former mayor of the capital Taipei. Lai told reporters before the vote that every vote is valuable. These votes are important for Taiwan's hard-earned democracy. At this time, he urged all the voters of Taiwan to vote.

This election has shown that China's pressure did not work among the voters. KMT and TPP accepted defeat after the announcement of election results.
