What the United States said about Russia's accusations against Peter Haas.

The US State Department said it was aware of the misrepresentations by Ambassador Peter Haas and Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova about US foreign policy.

Yesterday Friday, the spokesperson of the US State Department gave this response.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova alleged at a regular briefing in Moscow last Wednesday that the US ambassador to Dhaka, Peter Haas, met with an opposition leader about plans for an anti-government movement in Bangladesh.

The spokesperson of the US State Department said, 'The United States does not support any party in Bangladesh. The United States does not give priority to any team in Bangladesh.

The spokesperson said, 'The expectation of the United States, like the people of Bangladesh, is free and fair elections in a peaceful manner. US Embassy staff have and will continue to engage with the government, opposition parties, civil society, and other partners to achieve the common goal of free and fair elections and to urge them to work together in the interests of Bangladeshis.

Russian spokeswoman Maria Zakharova alleged that information had become public about a meeting between US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas and a high-level representative of the opposition in late October. In that meeting, they discussed the plan to organize massive anti-government protests in the country. In particular, the US ambassador during his conversation promised to provide information assistance if the authorities use force against participants in 'peaceful protests'. The United States is said to have given that assurance on behalf of the embassies of the United Kingdom, Australia and several other countries.
The spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry questioned how the US ambassador should view such actions. According to him, such action by the US ambassador is extreme interference by the US and its allies in the internal affairs of a sovereign country. Such action is a clear violation of the 1961 Vienna Charter on Diplomatic Relations.

Zakharova said, "We have no doubt that the Bangladeshi authorities are capable of conducting the parliamentary elections on January 7, 2024, independently and without the help of foreign well-wishers, following the country's constitution."
